Lovia Cooperative Mural

In 2013, Alise and I painted a mural at Lovia Cooperative in Gusuisavu Village in the highlands of Naitasiri, Fiji. We had fun with bright colors and Fiji motives, reflecting the warmth and vibrancy of this beautiful community.

This year Lovia Co operative store is celebrating 50 years in service, and we all agreed that it was a great occasion to give the wall a refresh.

I wanted to try something different with the colors and chose a bold, vibrant blue for the background with a graphical jungle design of lighter blue and pinks brought forward by contrasting shadows. Though Gusuisavu Village is located in the interior highlands, the people of Savu came from the island of Gau and maintain a connection with the Ocean. The blues of this piece speak to the deep blues of the sea and the images represent of the highland jungle.

The celebrations were attended by Deputy Prime Minister Honourable Manoa Kamikamica.
